Cranberry Juice can Prevent Diabetes and Heart Disease

A new study revealed that drinking low calories cranberry juice cocktail can prevent some serious diseases like heart disease, diabetes and stroke.

The research pointed out that cranberries are packed with protective compounds known as polyphenols. They are great for a healthy immune system; also they help us lead a balanced lifestyle.

“At the start and end of the experiment, the researchers measured things like blood pressure, blood sugar levels, blood lipids, as well as C-reactive protein, a marker of inflammation,” said Christina Khoo, director of Research Sciences at Ocean Spray.

Further Khoo added, “All of these measurements come together to tell a story. The worse off these numbers are in an individual, the more likely he or she will face a health condition like diabetes, heart disease or stroke in the future.”

People who drank two glasses of low-calorie cranberry juice a day showed an improvement across the above measures. This may result in 10 percent decrease in the risk of heart disease and 15 percent decrease in the risk of stroke. The fall in the blood pressure levels matched with those that can be achieved through top-rated diets like DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension); a diet established as the gold standard to reduce blood pressure after several successful studies by the National Institutes of Health.

Khoo added, “Luckily for us, a rich source of polyphenols is only a glass of cranberry juice away. Among the commonly consumed fruits in our diets, cranberries boast some of the highest levels of polyphenols- more than apples, blueberries, grapes or cherries.”

However, to maintain a good health and healthy lifestyle we should always look up for healthy diet and hygiene food. Instead of following the health myths that are available in various sources, eVaidya suggests you to Consult a Dietitian or Nutritionist Online for diet and help in choosing hygiene food and healthy diet.
